Workshop Description

Hina Matsuri, also known as “Momo no Sekku” (Peach Festival), is celebrated on every year to pray for
the healthy growth and happiness of girls. People display Hina dolls, adorn them with peach
blossoms, and enjoy traditional food and specific treats to celebrate the day and pray for the girl’s
healthy growth.
We do activities inspired by Hina Matsuri.
Theme: Girls, wishes, family, and spring
Ideal for: Craft‐loving, other-culture interested children

Learning Outcomes

• Cultural awareness: Children learn what Hina Matsuri is, why it’s celebrated, and how it

reflects Japanese hopes for children’s wellbeing.
• Understanding traditions: They explore the meaning of hina dolls, festival foods, and
seasonal customs.
• Global citizenship: They gain appreciation for cultural diversity and see connections
between Japanese festivals and celebrations in their own lives. Parents wishing for their
children’s healthy growth and a happy future is a commonality shared by both countries—and
a sentiment found in every country around the world.
• Language skills: Children learn simple Japanese vocabulary and practice communicating
what they made or learned.
