Start at the very beginning of your family history journey with an experienced teacher who knows how to simplify and explain the basics.  You will start by filling in charts with information you already know and by talking to your living family and you will learn the correct way to present the information you find, whether on paper or on a computer (but computers are better!). In learning about your ancestors you may find the joy and satisfaction of discovering living connections that you didn’t know existed.

As we go through the lessons you will learn how to use paper or digital charts and worksheets to keep track of everything, and you will learn how to evaluate how good and reliable the information is. You will go online and learn some basics about reading old newspapers, using ancestry and family search, using the census, and making google a useful tool in your research. This is a class for beginners so don’t worry if you don’t know anything or are not really great on a computer. My job is to demystify genealogy and leave you wanting to keep going after the month is over.

Preference: a portable device such as a laptop simplifies things but it is possible to do this class with a pen and pencil.

Suitable for ages 12+ – we ask that children are accompanied by an adult
