Workshop Description

Celebrate Matariki with a fun and creative sewing workshop! Children will design and make their own star-shaped hand warmer using a combination of hand sewing and machine sewing techniques.

Students will learn simple embroidery stitches to personalise their star before using a sewing machine to construct and fill their hand warmer. They’ll leave with a practical handmade creation to keep them warm throughout winter, along with new sewing skills and confidence.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Learn basic hand embroidery techniques.
  • Gain confidence using a sewing machine safely.
  • Develop fine motor skills and creativity.
  • Follow a sewing project from start to finish.
  • Create a finished Matariki-inspired hand warmer to take home.

All materials and equipment are provided, including fabric, sewing supplies, filling, and sewing machine use.

Suitable for children aged 7–12 years. No previous sewing experience required.
